The Alpha Crew is intended to help new members through the process of completing the new member requirements, registering for MFRI classes, and completing other required training.

Alpha Crew members are asked to attend at least two Alpha Crew meetings per month. They must also meet all other non-staffing requirements for operational members under the Membership Activity Requirements policy, such as attending at least one company meeting per quarter and participating in every mandatory event (like the Carnival).

OVFC’s Odenton Day open house is a mandatory event for all members.

Event Preparation

Shift Chore List

The station chore list should be posted at least two full weeks before Odenton Day. This will allow each crew two shifts to complete their assignments. Each shift has a specific chore list to be completed which is as follows:

Monday

• Kitchen
  • Thoroughly clean refrigerator, range, range hood and dishwasher
  • Clean out and wipe down all cabinets and under sink
  • Straighten all cabinets and drawers
  • Clean out utility closet
  • Clean microwave oven, coffee pot and toaster
  • Wipe down countertops and cabinet fronts
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Wipe down window ledge, baseboards and chair rail moldings
  • Clean HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.  Replace lights as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of trash can
  • Wipe down TV and TV Cabinet
  • Clean edges of bulletin/marker boards and map case
  • Clean out and straighten supply and linen closets
  • Clean windows inside and outside
  • Thoroughly clean floor, especially along edges and in closets
  • Any other work obviously required

Tuesday

• Workshop
  • Wipe down workbench, parts cabinets, yellow cabinet, welder
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Straighten yellow cabinet, janitorial closet and EMS closet
  • Clean HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.  Replace lights as needed.
  • Straighten shelves in tool room and wipe down as needed
  • Straighten toolbox
  • Clean inside and outside of trash can
  • Thoroughly clean floor, especially along edges, in corners, in closets and under objects
  • Any other work obviously required
• Alarm Room
  • Clean interior and exterior of glass door and windows
  • Wipe down baseboards, window ledges, and map shelf
  • Clean HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.  Replace lights and air filters as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of trash can
  • Straighten and wipe down desk surfaces, radio rack and top of cabinets
  • Clean scuff marks off cabinets
  • Wipe down computers, printers and other equipment
  • Straighten contents of cabinets
  • Clean edges of bulletin/marker boards
  • Thoroughly clean floor, especially along edges and under desks and radio rack
  • Any other work obviously required

Wednesday

• Board Room
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Wipe down baseboards
  • Clean HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.  Replace lights as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of trash can(s)
  • Straighten and wipe down desk surfaces and top of cabinets
  • Clean scuff marks off cabinets
  • Clean board table, TV and marker board
  • Wipe down chair legs, computers, copier & other equipment
  • Straighten contents of cabinets
  • Vacuum carpet thoroughly, especially along edges, in corners and under furniture
  • Any other work obviously required
• Back Hallway and Lockers
  • Clean inside, outside, under and behind washer and dryer
  • Clean out and straighten cabinets, including top
  • Wipe down lockers, and window ledges
  • Clean windows inside and outside
  • Clean janitor sink and closet
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Remove cobwebs
  • Clean inside and outside of trash cans
  • Thoroughly clean floor, especially along edges, in corners and under objects

Thursday

• Station Bathrooms
  • Thoroughly clean shower stalls and doors
  • Thoroughly clean toilets, urinals and sinks
  • Wipe down toilet partitions and doors
  • Wipe down all wall tile
  • Clean exhaust fan, HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.  Replace lights as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of trashcan
  • Clean mirror
  • Thoroughly clean floor, especially along edges and in corners
  • Any other work obviously required

Friday

• Station Exterior
  • Thoroughly walk grounds, parking lots and ramp and pick up ANY trash or debris
• Miscallaneous
  • Finish any tasks not completed by other crews.
  • Inspect station cleanliness and touch up anything needed

Saturday Day

• Apparatus Bays:
  • Thoroughly wash and degrease bay floors.
• Station Exterior:
  • Hose down front ramp
  • Hose down outside kitchen door
  • Clean outside hall main doors
  • Hose down around rear of hall

Saturday Night

• Apparatus Bays:
  • Wipe down tops of locker and straighten trophies
  • Remove all cobwebs from ceiling, beams, and light fixtures
  • Remove all cobwebs from walls
  • Clean out and straighten turnout gear lockers
  • Clean inside/outside of bay doors and side windows
  • Wipe down electrical cabinets, air compressor, air cascade, Plymovent cabinet, compressor, bench, and any other items as needed

Sunday Day

• Bunkrooms
  • Wipe down bed frames, tables, lockers (especially tops) and dressers
  • Clean inside and outside of windows
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Wipe down baseboards, chair rails, and window ledges
  • Clean fan, HVAC diffusers, and light fixtures.  Replace lights as needed.
  • Clean inside and outside of trash cans
  • Vacuum carpet thoroughly (especially along edges, in corners, and under beds)
  • Any other work obviously required

Sunday Night

• TV Room
  • Clean window inside and outside
  • Wipe down doors, including top edge
  • Wipe down baseboards, chair rail moldings, coat rack, and window ledge
  • Clean fans, HVAC diffusers and light fixtures.

A carnival company is hired to set up and operate carnival rides and games and sell snack food, while the OVFC members cook and sell food, operate additional games, and manage and clean the hall and carnival grounds.

The Carnival is a mandatory event for all members, who are usually required to work four of the seven nights.

Working members are usually asked to wear an OVFC T-shirt and closed-toed shoes.
