50 Years of Volunteer Ambulance Service

On October 10, 1970 the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (OVFC) responded to its first ambulance call. The first OVFC ambulance call was for an automobile accident on Rt 175 at the entrance to Arundel High School. Crew members were Richard Daff, driver and Past Chief Frank Bell (1967-1969) as the “aid”. The call turned out to be minor and no one required transport to the hospital.
Richard Daff became Chief of the OVFC in 1973 (1973-1974). Chief Frank Bell eventually became an Anne Arundel County career firefighter. Richard is now living in West Virginia where he is volunteering and serving as a fire apparatus training mentor. Sadly, Chief Bell passed away a number of years ago.

Odenton Volunteer Fire Company Fire and EMS operations are conducted by its members primarily in the Maryland communities of Odenton and Severn.
