On September 9, 2022, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) Danielle Chirillo received the Anne Arundel County Volunteer Firefighter Association’s Greg Croft Rookie of the Year Award for 2022.
Danielle joined the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (OVFC) in January 2021. She easily assimilated into the organization due to her military background. She is an enlisted member in the United States Navy and works as an intelligence analyst at Fort Meade. She will transfer to the Army later this year as a signals intelligence Warrant Officer. She has received the prestigious Joint Services Commendation Medal for her dedicated military service.
Danielle completed EMT, Hazardous Materials Operations, and the other required courses in September 2021 and began riding OVFC’s ambulance. She has been very enthusiastic about learning as much as she can as an EMT and helping as much as she can. Since she started riding the ambulance, she has worked 61 shifts totaling 608 hours and responded on 127 calls (through May 31). She regularly volunteers to come in on various nights to fill vacancies on the ambulance. To expand her knowledge as an EMT, she attended the EMS Care Conference in Ocean City in May 2022. She continues to seek opportunities to increase her emergency medical knowledge and skills.
OVFC is fortunate to have committed and enthusiastic members like EMT Chirillo.
