Remembering Norm Myers

Norm MyersNorman Myers, Sr. was born March 13, 1938 in Baltimore, and was a graduate of Baltimore’s Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School and served in the United States Navy Reserves from 1955 to 1963. Norm was the owner of Alpha Graphics and Revere Printing in Odenton for many years. He was a former president of the West Anne Arundel Chamber of Commerce as well as president of the Greater Odenton Improvement Association. Norm was a charter member of the Rotary Club of West Anne Arundel County and served on the Board of Directors of numerous organizations.

As a founding member of the Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee, he was instrumental in the formation of the Odenton Town Center Plan. Always active in the community, Norm was awarded The Presidents Call to Serve Award from President Obama. In addition, a section of Route 175 (formerly Sappington Circle) was named in his honor. He was twice honored as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary International. Norm had battled cancer for several years, but still went to work most days and was a fixture at meetings of the Rotary Club and Town Center Oversight Committee.

Norm was perhaps the key figure, inspiration, and founder of Odenton Day in its present format. Co-sponsored by the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company, the Greater Odenton Improvement Association, the Odenton Heritage Society, and the West County Chamber of Commerce; the annual community celebration is a show case of all things good in our community.

Norm passed away on November 22, 2013 but is still fondly remembered and missed by all who knew and loved him. He was an advocate for all things Odenton and in particular the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company. In appreciation of his lifetime of service to the community and for his friendship to the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company the Board of Directors hereby posthumously awarded the Honorary Title of Life Member to our friend Norm Myers on July 9, 2019.

Odenton Volunteer Fire Company Fire and EMS operations are conducted by its members primarily in the Maryland communities of Odenton and Severn.
