Drafting Drill with Neighboring Stations

Firefighting is all about putting water onto fire. But what do we do when there are no hydrants within reach to supply our pumps?

In non-hydranted areas, our pump operators turn to a technique called drafting: pulling water from an underground drafting tank or an open body of water (like a pond or swimming pool).

Drafting takes practice, so a couple of weeks ago our pump operators did some drafting training in cooperation with career firefighters from nearby County stations.

Odenton Volunteer Fire Company Fire and EMS operations are conducted by its members primarily in the Maryland communities of Odenton and Severn.
